The future of mankind

wreckandsalvage:

Some thoughts on the future of my species, on this cold January afternoon. I was going to make a video of this but I got distracted by Youtube bootyshakers.

The probability of extinction of humankind will be halved if we settle on at least one other celestial body.

Civilization is likely to collapse as population increases and resources decrease. Natural animal ferociousness (the lizard brain) will become apparent.

On the other hand, if space is conquered, the hope and spirit of humanity will be raised and positive thinking will become the norm.

Human kind is very young, and our humanity is only a thin layer on our cerebral cortex.

If we are given enough space and resources, our culture will develop exponentially.

The Moon is the closest source of raw materials in space and the Sun is a readily available power source to process lunar materials.

Summary: Embrace the viral nature of humanity. We’re not going to get anywhere by imposing artificial limits on ourselves.

I agree with this completely. We really need to focus on getting off this planet. It should be one of our government’s primary concerns. If a giant meteor hits us, then we are just done. Millions of years of evolution and thousands of years of technology down the drain. The economy, education, religion, renewable energy, war, abortion, gay marriage; not of that is going to mean shit without a planet to live on. I get a pretty scared when I hear about cutting money from our space program.
